Authentic Thai and Lao Flavors Hit Different

Hand-crafted dishes rooted in Southeast Asian tradition, served right on Spring Street in Newton, NJ.

About Us

Poy's Kitchen earned a 4.8-star rating across 271 reviews not by accident, but by cooking with the kind of honesty you taste in the first bite. Every dish on the menu, from the shrimp pad Thai to the beef stir fry with cashew nut sauce, is built on real technique and ingredients that actually smell like something.

The menu spans both Thai and Lao cuisine, which is rarer than it sounds. Most spots in Sussex County stop at the usual suspects. Poy's goes further, bringing Lao flavors, fresh spring rolls, and a pho that regulars describe as bolder and more vegetable-forward than the standard clear-broth style. That's not a mistake. That's a kitchen with a point of view.

The dining room on Spring Street draws a crowd at lunch and dinner alike. First-timers often arrive curious and leave with a go-to order already picked out for next time. That kind of repeat loyalty is what a 4.8 rating actually looks like in practice.

What We Offer

The menu covers serious ground. Appetizers are worth ordering in quantity, and guests who have tried every one report back that none disappointed. The spring rolls are fresh and light, the kind that remind you why fried food done right is its own art form.

Entrees lean into the bold, aromatic profiles that define Southeast Asian cooking. Pad Thai comes with your choice of protein, the cashew nut stir fry carries real depth, and the pho arrives with black pepper and hearty vegetables for a broth that has its own character. Vegetarian options are thoughtfully represented, not an afterthought.

Lunch and dinner service make Poy's a reliable stop whether you're grabbing a quick weekday meal or sitting down for a longer evening out. The kitchen handles both with the same care, which is exactly why the crowd keeps coming back to 240 Spring St.

"I had the opportunity to visit this restaurant for lunch today. I was particularly looking forward to enjoying some Thai cuisine, and I was specifically interested in their vegetarian selections. For those who adhere to a vegetarian diet, it's worth noting that their options are somewhat limited. I was hoping to find mock duck on the menu, but unfortunately, it was not available. However, they do offer tofu as a protein substitute. I chose the drunken noodles, which I found to be quite delicious, although they were a little on the oily side. I also ordered the spring rolls, which were satisfactory. I felt they could have benefited from a bit more ginger and overall flavor, and the accompanying sauce was quite thin; it wasn't the sweet chili sauce I typically expect. On a positive note, the peanut sauce I had was very flavorful and enjoyable. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant. I would rate my experience a 3.5 out of 5. The atmosphere and ambiance are rather simple and not particularly striking, so it might not be the ideal setting for a romantic date. However, if you're looking for a casual and low-key spot to have lunch with a few friends, this restaurant would be a suitable choice."

"We tried every appetizer on the menu, all were excellent! Tasty & fresh. I'm a bit of a "pho purist" I'm use to a clear broth and typical ingredients. This pho had a lot of black pepper & vegetables added to a cloudier broth. It was good, just not what I was expecting. Our server was very nice and the place was very clean."

"I love this place. The food is so good, the Thai tea is super sweet (and I love that!) the family that is here are so nice and kind. There's a bit of a wait sometimes, but honestly - it's 100% worth it and so are their prices. If you want some authentic Thai/lao food, I'd recommend here."
